Best High-Impact Sports Bras for Plus Size UK — D Cup to G Cup

High-impact support for larger busts is genuinely hard to find in activewear. Here's what the Forre community recommends from D cup to G cup.

Data sourced from the Forre community · No brand partnerships · Real fit reviews only

Most activewear brands design sports bras for an A–C cup. D cup and above is treated as an afterthought, often with the same design scaled up but without the structural changes that larger cups actually need. The result: encapsulation is absent, underwire is absent, and the bra works by compressing rather than supporting.

For high-impact activity — running, CrossFit, HIIT — compression alone doesn't cut it above a D cup. Here's what the community has found.

The encapsulation vs compression difference

Compression bras (most standard sports bras) press the breasts flat against the chest. Works reasonably well up to a C cup. Above that, compression increases bounce rather than reducing it because there's too much tissue to flatten.

Encapsulation bras have individual cups that contain each breast separately, the same principle as a regular underwire bra. These dramatically reduce movement and bounce for D cup and above.

Combination bras do both — encapsulation plus compression. These are the gold standard for high-impact activity with a larger bust.

What the community recommends

Shock Absorber Ultimate Run Bra (D–G cup) — Available at Sweaty Betty, Adidas, and independent sports retailers. This is the most recommended high-impact bra by D+ cup women in the Forre community. Encapsulation + underwire + adjustable straps. Not the most beautiful sports bra, but it works.

Lululemon Enlite Bra (D–E cup) — Premium option. Molded cups, adjustable straps, built-in underwire. One of the few high-end sports bras that offers proper support. Expensive (around £70) but highly regarded.

Sweaty Betty Stamina Bra (up to D cup) — At the limit of what Sweaty Betty's sports bras handle without a dedicated high-impact structure. Works well for D cups in lower-impact activity. Above D or above medium impact, look elsewhere.

Panache Sport (D–J cup) — Lingerie brand that does sports bras properly. Underwire, individual cups, adjustable everything. Less premium aesthetic than activewear brands but the best structural support available in the D–J range.

What to avoid

  • Any sports bra described as "light support" or "yoga" if you need high-impact support
  • Crop-top style bras above a D cup regardless of how they look in product photography
  • Brands that only offer bras up to an L/XL without specifying cup size — these are compression-only and will not work for high-impact

Buying advice

If you're D cup or above, buy on cup volume not on size label. A sports bra labelled "M" in a brand that doesn't specify cup size is a compression bra that treats you the same as a B cup in the same size. Always look for bras that specify cup volume or have molded cups.

For running specifically: the standard is that you should be able to put your fist on your chest and jump without discomfort. If you can't, the bra isn't working hard enough.
