Pilates Starter Kit

Pilates is precision movement — your clothes need to be body-skimming so the instructor can see your alignment, and soft enough not to distract you.

The thinking

Why these items

Reformer and mat pilates both involve controlled, precise movements. Tight-fitting but comfortable leggings let your instructor (and you) see your body position. Grip socks are essential for reformer — they keep your feet in place. A light-support bra is fine as pilates is low impact.

Before you start

Beginner Tips

01

Start with mat pilates before moving to reformer — it teaches you the fundamentals of breath and alignment that make reformer work safer.

02

Tell your instructor about any back, hip, or knee issues. Pilates is widely used in physiotherapy and movements can be modified for you.

03

Wear form-fitting clothes so the instructor can see your alignment and correct it.

04

Grip socks are essential for reformer — most studios sell them if you forget.
