CrossFit Starter Kit

CrossFit mixes weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardio — your clothes need to handle all of it. Here's what actually holds up in the box.

The thinking

Why these items

CrossFit involves jumping, lifting, rope climbs, and burpees — all in one class. You need shorts or leggings with no slipping waistband, a high-support bra that stays put during box jumps, and a breathable top that doesn't ride up during deadlifts.

Beginner Tips

01

Book a Fundamentals or OnRamp course first — most boxes require it before you join regular classes. It teaches the core movements safely.

02

Scale everything. Every workout has modifications and the coach will show you. There is no shame in lighter weights.

03

Fuel properly — CrossFit is intense. Eat a light meal 1–2 hours before and have protein within 30 minutes after.

04

Consistency beats intensity. Three sessions a week, showing up regularly, is far more effective than going hard twice and burning out.

Where to Start

Search for CrossFit boxes (that's what gyms are called) at crossfit.com/map. Most offer a free intro class. Expect to do a fundamentals course (usually 3-6 sessions) before joining regular classes.
